The Old Hawaii Tee
If you were born and raised here, you've seen it and felt it...things are slowly but surely changing. The rising cost of living, fields and beaches that were once untouched now scattered with subdivisions and buildings, foreign investors that have no connection to the aina coming to our home with dollar signs in their eyes - the list goes on...
But there's two ways we can treat it: with closed minds and anger, or open hearts and remembrance. I think Jerry Santos of Olomana said it best before one of his performances of "Ku'u home O Kahalu'u" - "This is a song that speaks about change, the way people change, the way places change, how we put together those things together in our lifetime. For it is in remembering where we come from, that we know who we are and have the foundation to greet anything that will come."
This piece is for all of us who have witnessed the change and thought, "I miss the old Hawai'i". It still exists in all of us.
